Intro to Alpine Mountaineering

Course Summary

This is a 6 day Intro to Alpine Mountaineering instructional course. On a first visit the Alps can be a very intimidating place, this course gives you the necessary skills to be able to look after yourself in this environment in order to be able to progress from British mountaineering to the Alps on your own with confidence.

Course Content

The Intro to Alpine Mountaineering week is spent learning the essential skills of alpine mountaineering - using crampons and ice axe, alpine rope work, travelling on glaciers often through crevassed terrain, crevasse rescue and easy rock scrambling.

Experience / Fitness / Ability

This Intro to Alpine Mountaineering is suitable for persons with no previous Alpine experience but who have mountain experience in the UK. Even with no previous experience in crampons or using an ice axe.

Course Location

There are several venues that are all good bases for the Intro to Alpine Mountaineering course, the Chamonix valley, Arolla or Saas Grund. All these venues have great glaciated terrain where you can perfect the skills outlined above, also there are more challenging routes and peaks.

Introduction to Alpine Mountaineering

Cost: £1350 per person.

Ratio: 1:3 maximum.

Number of days: 6 days. Sun - Fri inclusive.

Included: All Guides fees, 7 nights accommodation either in mountain huts on half board or a hotel in the valley on a B & B basis.

Not included: Transport to and from the course venue, uplift, evening meals in the valley, lunches, insurance, equipment hire.
